1. On can be used in the following ways :
     As a preposition : she was lying on the floor . It happened on a hot summer's day.
As an adverb: put your clothes on now. When the bus stopped he got on.
after the verb 'to be' : Is the central heating on?

In can be used in the following ways:
as a preposition (followed by a noun): the childern are in the garden. They met in 1973.
As an adverb (without a following noun) : come in and sit down.
after the verb 'to be' : 'is philip in? 'No, he's gone ou.'
As an adjective : it was the in thing to do.
at used for stating where someone or something is a. In a particular place.

2. Past can be used in the following ways:
As a preposition (followed by a noun) : it's past your bedtime. I walked past the post office.
as an adverb (without a following noun) : A policeman walked past. Months went past nothing happened.

Cross to go from one side of something such as a room or enclosed area to the other.

Trough can be used in the following ways: as a preposition (followed by a noun) : they were riding through a forest.
as an adverb (without a following noun): there's hole in the roof where the rain comes through.

Along can be used in the following ways:
As a preposition (followed by a noun ) : go along south street and turn left.
as an adverb (without a following noun) : can i bring the childern along?
